The different subclasses of visitor visas are:

Electronic Travel Authority – Subclass 601

This visa allows you to visit Australia as often as you wish. You can stay up to 3 months each time. This visa subclass is subject to COVID-19 restrictions.

Transit Visa – Subclass 771

You can transit through Australia for no longer than 72 hours on this visa. You must have a confirmed booking to travel to another country within 72 hours. You can also apply for this visa if you are joining a crew on a non-military ship and you have a Maritime Crew Visa.

Visitor Visa (Tourist Stream) – Subclass 600

Apply for this visa outside Australia. You can visit as a tourist and stay up to 3, 6, or 12 months. You can visit family or friends, go on a cruise, or have a holiday. You must have enough money to come stay in Australia and you cannot work during your stay.

Priority is given to applicants exempt from travel restrictions or those who need urgent travel. A parent or step-parent of an Australian citizen or permanent citizen may be granted a visa that is valid for more than 12 months.

E Visitor – Subclass 651

Apply for the E Visitor visa outside Australia. You can stay for up to 3 months in Australia on this visa. You are able to visit family or friends, enter Australia on a cruise, or have a holiday.

This visa may also allow you to travel to Australia as a business visitor. You are able to make general business enquiries, enter into a business contract, go on an official government visit, or go to a conference. You cannot work in Australia on this visa.

Working Holidays

The Working Holiday Visa (the Working Holiday Maker Program) – Subclass 417

This visa enables people aged from 18-30 years old (from certain partner countries or jurisdictions); or Canadian, French and Irish citizens aged from 18 to 35 years old, have an extended working holiday in Australia. Visa holders can stay for 12 months, and study for up to 4 months. There is scope to apply for a second or third working holiday visa, provided your work was in a specified area for the prescribed time.

Visitor Work and Holiday (the Working Holiday Maker Program) – Subclass 462

This visa permits 18-30 year olds (from certain partner countries or jurisdictions) work and holiday in Australia. You can stay for up to 12 months and study for up to 4 months. You must meet certain requirements, including, a certain level of education (depending on your country of passport), having a letter of support from your government (for some countries) and a functional level of English. Following this, you may be eligible for a second and a third work and holiday visa, provided you have worked in a specified area for the prescribed time.
